Smoke or Shop?

Most of you know I have had quite the battle with the little cancer sticks. I go for months and a few times, years without so much as an urge to pick one up. Then something happens (like big-time wedding stress), I pick one up and I struggle to put them down again.

I now find myself in the middle of this struggle once again. I know all the tricks and all the helpful things to do like consuming more dairy (makes the things taste just awful), drinking lots of water (not sure why this helps, it just does) and trying to change up my daily habits to avoid the trigger activities. The problem is that living with two smokers has slowed my progress. Although, I am doing a lot better than I anticipated. No one has died or has been injured yet and I've cut down my smoking to about two a day (at the most)The problem is that I've also found a strange new craving. I've been craving mall trips. Well, trips to DSW to be exact. I don't know why but I have actually been WANTING to go show shopping. I'm talking, more than cigarettes. What the hell?!

I've heard of compulsions to go shopping, but I've never heard of it actually being craved in lieu of another urge.

Yankee Candle

I don't know why, but I got the sudden urge to hit the Yankee Candle store. The big one in Springfield. Hmmm...

The Return of The Crotch Venom

So apparently every time you have Twilight fans or Twilight Moms in a room, the subject of crotch venom is brought up. This past Sunday I got together a group of area TwilightMoms for brunch in NYC and of course, "Does Crotch Venom Sparkle?" came up (teehee. Came up... teehee) in conversation. The funny thing, the question is still being brought up, discussed and giggled over.

So, now I pose that question for you to ponder and giggle about.

Yeah, try to reread those books now with that quesiton in mind.

Better yet, ponder this: If you're in a dark room and shine a bright flashlight on Edward, would that turn him into a disco ball?

Sleeping Angry

Anyone who says men don't get PMS-like symptoms, has never lived with a man. I say this because last night I got so pissed with Aaron that I stormed out of the room, slamming the door beind me and fuming for a while.

He's been sick for a few days and he's been stressing out about a lot of little things that are pretty inconsequential, so I gave him quite a lot of slack. We went out food shopping when I got home from work, so already I knew he would be in a pissy mood. He's terrible to go shopping with. I like to take my time, compare prices, see what cupons I have and think about the difference between getting products at one store compared to another, right down the street. Aaron is not like this at all. He goes to one store, and goes by exactly what is on the list. If you do not specify the brand, size, color, maker, perhaps bar-code number, he will grab the first thing he sees. And God help you if you look at something that is not on the damn list. I hate this.

Still, I tried to be patient, I didn't want to seem ungrateful since he volunteered to foot the bill this time around. I already spent $120 on food at the Korean market. But from the moment I stepped into the car, all I got from him was a wave of icky, like you wouldn't believe. Oh yes, and he only brought two of the reusable bags (I have tons) and forgot my cupon keeper. Gah! I do have my store cards with me at all times, but still.

When we got home, the wave just got ickier. I finally lost it when I tried to talk to him about what was up his ass and he mumbled something incoherent and said he was tired. I didn't make much of it so I changed the channel to something I wanted to watch and started doodling in my sketch pad. He then got grumpier with me. So I snapped. I yelled at him and stormed out of the room with a good slam of the door. It was childish, I know but there's something very theaputic about door slamming.

So fast forward to 3:30ish in the morning. I'm not sure who woke who up first, but he inched over to my side of the bed and hugged me. THEN asked if I was awake. :) He said he was sorry for being so crabby with me. I said I was sorry for yelling at him. Note: it wasn't for the door slamming... ye-har-har...

The problem then was that he was fully awake at 3:30-ish in the morning. I had to go back to sleep but he started doing stuff in the room, in the kitchen, turned on his computer in the livingroom (but the volume is always cranked up. I swear it goes to 11). I eventually drifted off to sleep around 4:30ish. Woke up at 5:50. >:-O

Perhaps next time forgiveness can wait till the sun comes up. Or perhaps we can go with the old addage "never go to sleep angry." Yeah.. I vote for making an amendment to that one: "Never go to sleep angry. Lest you want to be woken in the middle of the night and feel tired as hell!"

I Love Being a Big Geek

At the end of July, I will be heading to Dallas for TwiCon. Yep, a Twilight Convention. There are several reasons I will be there, but a wee bit ago they announced they will be holding a Volturi masquerade ball. Awesome! So yes, I have been scouring every art shop and mask store I can find to find the perfect mask for myself. I also decided that damn it, I'm going to run with the vampires. I'm going to get myself amber colored contacts. Such a geek.

Most people would worry at this point, but no. Not me. This is getting me even more excited about geeking out with the group of Twilight Moms that are attending. They all thought that was the best idea in the world. I'm just glad they all haven't commissioned artwork from me.

News about New Moon

How Awesome! Dakota Fanning is in talk to play Jane in New Moon. Sweet! She's eerily perfect for the role.

Thanks to Aaron...

I got up late this morning and therefore was running late. I got to the busstop just as the bus pulled away, but it was okay. Aaron actually pulled up to the bus stop within a minute later, so he gave a raide to the train station. He had Tenacious D playing in his car. Although I enjoyed the music, the problem is that I then had the Kielbasa Sausage song stuck in my head.

On the train, I broke out into laughter a few times, so people looked at me funny. But that's not the end of it. I had a meeting this morning with my bosses and the CEO. I tried desperately not to think about the song, but to no avail. I had to resort to coughing to hide the laughs!

So, just because I'm fucked up like that... enjoy.

Monsters HD

Those limey bastards at Cablevision cut Monsters HD from our system!

No warning, note, messanger pigeon, nothing. I turned it on to catch whatever was playing on monsterama and it was just gone. I was so pissed. Especially because I didn't even know we had those channels until about a month ago. Evan never bothered to tell me. So since then, I have been watching the best and the worst of B-horror movies out there. It was brilliant. And now it's gone. All gone. :-(

Sure, Evan has a collection and a half of just about every conceivable horror movie there is, but still, there are some trully spectacular flops out there that I just haven't seen yet. So pissed!

44th President

I may not be an authority in politics, but I've spent a long time among politicians. And enough time to know how things play out behind the scenes. So what does this mean now that we officially have a new president?

Simple. I hope he does well and restores the country to prominence. I’m hopeful; I’m not an enthusiastic and blind believer. But that’s just because I’m one hell of a jaded individual when it comes to politics. But again, I’m hopeful.

Here’s my problem, though. My problem is as it was before the election. He’s a great speaker but I hope that there’s a lot more behind those words. The man was a lawyer and is supposed to know how to deliver a speech and is supposed to know how to move people to see things his way. My concern is that his short stint in Congress didn’t show me enough of what he is really capable of.

Let’s face it; the man is walking into a world of shit now that he has taken the reins. The economy, the two wars, national security and so many more smaller (but important) issues.

A Great Weekend

Is it me or do all great weekends start off with a few hours of doing absolutely nothing but what YOU want?

I’m pretty excited. This was a fantastic weekend. It started off with a Friday night of doing nothing but tidying. Saturday was glorious. I tidied, made myself a big breakfast, a big cup of coffee and sat down with a stack of magazines that I hadn’t had the chance to read yet and took a nap. Even the cat wasn’t into moving around much. After my nap I reorganized the closet while watching Sweeny Todd (again) and then went back to doing nothing. Awesome.

Sunday, we spent at Aaron’s sister’s and Monday we spent at my parents and later at my brother’s. But mostly, we did nothing. I love it. I should have more weekends like this.

And the geek shall inherit the earth

You know, I think I have always been all about the geeks. I first saw John Linell in 1990 and thought he was the cutest damn thing in the world. His music rocked and he was awesome even though he played the accordion. The funny thing is, I still think he's a hottie.

And just because his voice has been running around in my head all day, here's an oldie and one of the first TMBG videos I remember watching. (The first one was "Don't Let Start," but I couldn't find a good version.)

The Might Be Giants

Once again, I got a random song stuck in my head.

Why this one crept in my wee noggin is beyond me, but I like it. Then again, I'm usually pretty happy any day I have a They Might Be Giants song running laps in the ole skull. :)

I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die

Sometimes I feel like being wispy
And once in a while I feel like being dry
But we're doomed and we're drowned by this feeling we surround
So I hope that I get old before I die

It's a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasn't happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that I'll be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die

Clear off the kitchen table darling
For on the kitchen table I must lie
I'm just tired for my wife just served the banquet of my life
And I hope that I get old before I die

It's a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasn't happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that I'll be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die

It's a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasn't happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that I'll be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die

Ellen Asked for a Pony!

Ellen just stole my friend Vizma's line!

in the preview for the next show the announcer said Nicolette Sheridan has a surprise for Ellen. Then Ellen responds by saying, "I hope it's a pony."

That's what V always asks for... Ellen stole her line.

Damn, It's Cold

And all I can think of to make me feel better is this:

And just because I'm not sure most people have seen it, here's the original:

I just saw one of the best quotes ever. I have no idea who said it, or where it comes from but I really dig it.

"Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says, 'Aw crap. She's up!'"

Edward Cullen Can...

This t-shirt makes me giggle. I'm just not sure how Aaron would take it if I got it.

Ah well.

HaHaHaHa. Fail

Now, how do they know it's fresh, or extra fresh for that matter?

I'm Feeling Better

So I went and had a chat with my bosses today. It went well, they were a bit disapointed but bot surprised. They each said they couldn't blame me for taking the money and running since it looks like the business will not be picking up and the next time they have to make cuts, they will be in the form of layoffs.

The other good thing is that both bosses said they would be fine with me staying as long as I needed (or till March 31) and that I could start looking for a new job from here. So in other words, I will get paid to search for jobs and then get paid a bonus after I get the new job. Sweet!

I'm feeling much better about this already.

Oh What The H---?

I swear, every time I want to talk to my bosses one of them HAS to be either on the way out or on the phone. Crap!

Guitar Hero

Ah yes, the game is back. Well, it never went away, I just took time to let my arm recover and then we got tied up with doing other things like redoing the apartment, getting married and all that jazz, but a few nights ago, I rediscovered Guitar Hero. Last night I played and tried to max out all the songs on medium before getting back into the hard level.

I got about half way through before I started falling asleep. Now my arms feel like I've done an arm workout and I'm trying to figureout the fingering for every song I hear on the radio (that's in the game).

I fully anticipate finishing up the rest of this level tonight. I should be able to get back up to speed on the hard level and be able to get through a few songs with a decent score.

I swear I have never paid more attention to a friggin' Senate Confirmation Hearing in my life.

You go, you bad-ass girl!

Sorry, I can't help it. I'm a fan of Hillary. I think she has some of the biggest set of balls on The Hill.

And Now For Something Completely Yummy

Sookie Stackhouse Novels/ Southern Vampire Mysteries

Darn it all to heck! I've caught up with the series. I've read all othe books currently available and now I have to wait till some point in 2009 to get my hands on the new book. I know how the new book starts since I read the first chapter (the writer posted it as a teaser) but now I'm really anxious to read the damn thing.

I hate waiting!

Ah well, I suppose I can always pick up yet another series. At this rate, I'm going to need my own bookshelf. Aaron's is already at maximum capacity.

Wah, Wah. Wah-F***ing-Wah

You know what? Working on three hours sleep sucks ass. But this time, it's all my fault.

Last night, despite the sucky driving conditions, Aaron and I went to hang out with friends. We played Guitar Hero and then one of THE best movie trivia games ever, Scene It on X-Box. This game, by the way, has made it clear that I have watch a shit load of movies in my life. Aaron and I normally play together, so we beat the hell out of people in this game. When we play separately, I can usually trounce him and his friends. Last night Daren, Aaron and I each got a win. I wasn't on my game. But I digress...

So now I am cranky as all hell, I'm hungry and being kept alive by a venti Starbuck's Cafe Americano. Luckily, I'm almost done with work and will soon be able to drive home and pass out for a while.

A Little Pleasure

I don't know why, but one of the funniest things in the world to me is a baby with a case of hiccups.

Of all the things I have in this world, some of my most treasured things are my friends.

There are some that I absolutely treasure and would do anything for. There are some I keep at somewhat of a distance and there are some who pop in and out periodically, but always seem to manage to be around when I need them most. I still don't understand how that happens, but there you have it.

Recently I've been going through a bit of a rough funk and I have been extremely glad I've had my support system who let me know that I'm not on crack for some decisions I have been considering. And then, out of the blue, I got an e-mail from a friend who's not exactly close, but good like that when it counts. She sent me a link to something that made me almost snort my coffee out all over my computer screen.

Now I share it with you. Enjoy...

Work Sucks

The very worst thing about being at work today is the feeling that this is all a complete waste of time. Sure, i still want to work just well enough to not get fired at the moment, but that's about it. All the enthusiasm for this place has been completely lost. I used to actually give a crap and once wanted to do a great job, but now I couldn't give a rat's ass. It's sad really.

But then again, they could have well brought this upon themselves. I wonder how many other people are feeling the same way. Shit, no wonder there's speculation that the place will tank in a matter of years. They have pretty much sucked out every bit of good humor and enthusiasm in the place.

Oh yeah, the topper for me is the fact that I had to miss my niece's second birthday part to be in this place. Does that suck ass or what?

In 2008 I (sort of in order—not really):

-Worked on New Year’s Eve.
-Paid off all of my credit cards.
-Got a new credit card (and am paying it off very soon).
-Officially got engaged.
-Went through a very long list of potential locations for a wedding (found one).
-Organized a wedding.
-Got into a huge fight with a sister-in-law.
-Got a man-cake.
-Worked like a mad woman.
-Almost lost my mind.
-Lost my mind.
-Got it back (sort of.)
-Became one of the only people to hear Barack Obama’s acceptance speech in Time’s Square on Election Day.
-Had a really great bachelorette party at Hunkmania (remembered all of it.)
-Demanded, “more drinking.”
-Had a conga line of Italian men congratulate me (remembered nothing but there are photos.)
-Puked my guts out on a street corner in NYC. –Blech (remembered bits and pieces.)
-Got married.
-Lost some weight (put it back on during the honeymoon.)
-Got to spend a lot of time with very good friends.
-Fell in love with a teenaged-looking vampire from a “young readers” book (I love you Edward Cullen!).
-Became a Twilight pusher (I got my friends and Aaron to read the Twilight series)
-Was strangely pleased to know that the obsession has spread beyond my friends and Aaron in a matter of days.
-Met a few TwilightMoms.
-Pondered the question: Does crotch venom sparkle?
-Put up a Christmas trees in an apartment mostly inhabited by Jews!
-Managed to not completely lose my mind when things at work got F***ed up.
-Started sending out resumes to anyone with an e-mail.
-Got really pissed at a lot of little things all because I was feeling displaced.
-Got to finally see Spamalot.
-Got to see Clay Aiken in Spamalot.
-Found another vampire-based obsession; True Blood/ The Sookie Stackhouse novels. (The show is great. The books are better! Bill Compton and Eric Northman are HOT.)
-Got to spend time with friends in the City after Christmas.
-Made it a point to do as little as possible over the holidays.
-Worked on New Year’s Eve.
